Small Business

Designing for a small Business with Big Dreams

This project focuses on branding and building sustainability around a small, handmade goods brand called ‘Opalight’.

Being a small and eco-conscious business, the goal was to create a growth-oriented, yet customer centered brand focused on the lifestyle values of vendor and buyer.

Below ranges from inspiration, to packaging design, to marketing the company and customer outreach.

The Products

Exploration of this collection resulted in the packaging design for 7 product types and multiple seasonal versions per type.

Packaging elements were inspired by and mimic the scientific compounds that moonstone ‘Opalite’ is made from ; incorporating metal and glass into the design.

Packaging was hand drafted and built with sustainability, reusability, and eco-friendly in mind.

Beeswax is used as a binding and sealing method on packaging, as well as a way to reuse leftover material from product creation.

Paper is a natural choice in sustainability and recycling, and uses eco-friendly printing ink. Paper packaging can be printed and assembled from home making it accessible.

Glass lends luminosity while also mimicking the light-bending traits found in Opalite.

Putting it all Together

A great product wont get very far without great packaging. Thats why special attention is paid to the product lifestyle and how it reaches it’s new home.

A reusable canvas tote, eco-friendly paper wrapping and packaging, and of course a versatile Furoshiki that can by used to wrap, carry, or as a multi-purpose bandana.
