Let’s stir things up!
Tea anyone?
This specialty website focuses on designing a custom website for a tea and coffee shop of our own creation. Using our own photographs, logo, and themes, this project called for extra flexing of Wordpress and applied design skills.
The seemingly simple logo for the tea shop holds deep history as it is done in the ‘Mon’ or family crest style - a round emblem, slightly yellowed, as if painted on antiqued pre-war chirimen silk.
The nested circles is in fact two part. Firstly the perspective of looking down at a tea bowl (Chawan) and second, loosely representing the sun, moon and star in the tea ceremony realm.
The tea shop was created to emulate a Japanese Matchaya specialty tea shop.
The name ‘Utsushi’ (写し) refers to a copy or mimic in an artistic way to honor the original as inspired by the original. It is also particularly used in tea as a way to reference certain Japanese Tea Ceremony utensils.
